Skyros is the largest island of the Sporades island complex, it covers an area of about 210sq. km and is surrounded by many islets such as Skyropoula, Sarakino, Platy, Mirmigonisia, Vrykolakonisia, etc.

The pine-clad northern part of Skyros comes into sharp contrast with its rocky southern landscape.

The port of Linaria is the first settlement visitors encounter upon their arrival at the island. Following the road to the east you you will find the island's capital, Chora or Skyros town. It is amphitheatrically built on the slopes of a hill, on the top of which a Medieval castle and the Byzantine Monastery of Ai – Giorgis are nestled. The entrance of the castle is decorated with a marble lion-dragon.

St George, the patron Saint of the island was built in 906 by Nikiforos Fokas and Ioannis Tsimiskis, on the highest point of the island. This holy place is decorated with rare hagiographies and it has a wonderful view. It's also worth to visit the churches of Virgin Mary, St. Artemis and St. Nicholas.

From the port of Linaria caiques depart daily for the southern part of the island, which is inaccessible by car. One can visit the caves but also plunge in the crystalclear waters of the beach Sarakino.

Skyros is renowned for its indigenous ponies, bred exclusively on the island. There is a municipal hippodrome in Aspous, inviting visitors to test their riding skills. An alternative place for horseback riding is the pine-tree forest of Atsitsa.

You should also visit: Τhe Archeological Museum where are displayed findings dating to the Early Helladic Period until the Roman times. The Rupert Brooke Square with a view over Magazia.

The Faltaits Folk Museum which it houses objects of the island ' s traditional and modern folk art. The Ancient Quarries, in Pouria, which occupy a great part of the coast opposite Vrykolakonisia.

Famous beaches in Skyros Island: Magazia, Gyrismata, Agiow Petros, Theotokos, Palamari, Kyra Panagia, Pefkos, Acherounes, Kalamitsa, Kolymbada, Renes.

By airplane: There are regular flights from Athens (Eleftherios Venizelos) airport to Skyros.
