Lying between Skiathos and Alonissos, Skopelos is the second largest island of Sporades complex, covering 96 square km.
There, the green of the pine trees joins the blue of the sea. Skopelos can satisfy the lay visitors such as the nature lovers. The island is covered at 80% of its total extent from pinewoods, damaskins and olive groves.
Skopelos or Chora, the capital of the island, is a picturesque village amphitheatrically built, that starts from the port and extends to the Acropolis (castle) of Ancient Peparithou. It is a charming settlement enchanting with traditional, white washed houses, cobbled narrow streets, coloured flowers and roughly 120 churches.
Glossa is one of the tree villages of Skopelos , the biggest in population. The surrounding area has a particular archeological interest because it hosts ancient towers and buildings of different ancient times.
Klima is located at the southwestern part of the island that looks towards to Skiathos and Northern Evia . The village in the past was divided into two neighbourhoods the upper Klima and the lower Klima.
Elios is situated a t a distance of 18 km from Skopelos. This new settlement was built in 1981, after the destruction of Klima by the earthquakes of 1965. It is a green area with pine trees and the beautiful beach of Chovolo.
Visit the Folklore Museum , the Mediterranean Centre of picture of Skopelos island, where every summer are organized important exhibitions of Greek and foreign photographers, the place of “Sentoukia” and the house of Pavlos Nirvanas. You should also visit the Holy Monasteries of Evagelistria, Agiou Riginou, Timiou Prodromou, Agias Varvaras and Sotiros. Famous beaches in Skopelos Island: Stafylos, Velanio, Agnontas, Limnonari, Panormos, Linarakia, Antrines, Milia, Kastani, Chovolo, Armenopetra, Perivoliou and Glysteri.
HOW TO GET THERE By airplane : There is no direct connection with Skopelos. From Athens and Thessaloniki to Skiathos and from there flyng dolphin of ferry boat to Skopelos. By ship: There are regular itineraries from Kimi of Evia and flying dolphins from Volos and Agios Konstantinos
