Learn about Koufonisia Island

To the southeast of Naxos, there are three small islands called Koufonissia, with excellent beaches and secluded coves. These islands are: Pano Koufonissi and Kato Koufonissi, separated by a narrow (200 m.) strait and Keros.

Pano Koufonissi is the smallest and most densely populated island of Cyclades, with a surface area of 3,5 sq. Km and 285 residents. It is a genuine fishermen island, as all residents work in the fishing sector.

Kato Koufonissi has a surface area of 4,3 sq Km. and it is almost uninhabited but it has very beautiful, deserted beaches which are preferred by many nudists. The only sight of the island is the church of Panagia that is built on the jetty, on top of ancient ruins.

Keros is an uninhabited nearby island, which is characterized as a protected archaeological site, due to the fact that on this island have been found important artefacts of the Cycladic Art.

A number of small uninhabited islands surrounding the main Koufonissia are Glaronissi, Tsouloufi, Loubardari, Drima, Plakes, Lazaros and Voulgaris.

Beaches in Koufonisia: Porios, Koufonisi, Charokopos, Parianos
