ASTYPALAIA

Learn about Astypalaia Island

Astypalaia is a beautiful and romantic island of Dodecanese complex that attracts more Greek tourists than foreigners . It is a nearly divided in two smaller islands island with many marvellous sandy beaches, very interesting caves and many well preserved ancient ruins.

Although being a part of the Dodecanesian group, Astypalaia looks like a Cycladian island because of the wild landscapes and the numerous churches built on each side of the island.

Do not miss a visit to the capital of Astypalaia, Chora, with its beautiful white washed houses and a Venetian castle crowning it, and a visit to the windmills, as well as the small port of Maltezana , especially between 7 and 9 p.m. when fishermen return and sell fish and crayfish straight from their boats.

Visit the churches of Panagias (Virgin Mary), Saint George and Panagia Portaitissa, a 250 years old church. Visit the settlement Livadi, the most fertile area of the island with vineyards, orange-groves and tangerine-trees. Swim to the beach of Tzanaki and take a tour by a caique to the lagoon Vathy.
