At Neolithic community (dated back to 4000 B.C) was discovered at Saliaga, findings of which can be seen exhibited today at the archaeological museum of Paroikia. At Despotiko which remains today an uninhabited island, opposite Agios Georgios, many excavations are taking place at the region of Mantra, bringing to the light such great findings archaeologists believe that Despotiko will be declared an Archaeological Park.
