Amorgos is the biggest island of the “Small Cyclades” group and it covers an area of 126sk. The wonderful beaches, the mountainous landscape and the traditional life style can charm any visitor.

Chora is the capital of the island and combines the traditional Cycladic architecture with a historical tradition. Remarkable are the churches of Agioi Pantes, the Cathedral, Vlissani, Agios Nikolaos and the monastery dependency of Fotodoti Christou, the historical castle as well as the archaeological collection. Chora has the beautiful beaches of Agia Anna and Kambi.

 
 
 

Leaving Chora and going to the direction of Kato Meria, is situated the Byzantine monastery of Panagia Chosoviotissa, which has religious and historical importance. There are many historical relics with a rare architecture. Every year thousands of visitors go up the 300 steps, which lead right to the center of the huge rocks to admire the grandeur of nature.

Katapola's bay with the simple Cycladic architecture and the port with the fishing boats are a particularly picturesque landscape. It consists of three settlements: Katapola, Xylokeratidi and Rachidi. Churches of special interest are Panagia Katapoliani, the Byzantine church of Evaggelismos, the hill of Mountoulia with the ruins of Ancient Minoa as also the area of the old dam and Lefkes.

Wonderful beaches: Kato Akrotiri, Maltesi, Plakes, Treis Ierarches, Agios Panteleimonas, Phinikies, Tirokomos and Agioi Saranda.

 
 
 

Aigiali, at the northern part of Amorgos, is a gulf with many sandy beaches. On the sides of the mountains are the settlements of Lagada, Tholaria and Potamos. Ormos is the port of Aigiali and the resort of the area.

Lagada dominates the plain area of Aigiali. The most interest sights of the village are the windmills, the gorge of Araklos, the church of Agia Triada and Panagia Epanochoriani and the old village of Stroumbos. Next you will reach the Byzantine monastery of Ioannis Theologos and the church of Stavros.

Tholaria is located near the area of ancient Vigla and overlooks this whole bay.

Right above the port of Aigiali lays Potamos village where one can enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets of the Aegean Sea.

Near beaches beaches are Aigiali, Levrosos, Psili Ammos, Chochlakas, Vlichada and the beach of Agios Pavlos where you can swim or sail to the small island of Nikouria.

 
 
 

To the southwest of the island there are the settlements of Kamari and Vroutsi with the historical church of Agios Nikolaos, Kastri and the wonderful beach of Mourou. Go after to the villages of Arkesini with the Agias Triadas ancient tower, Rachoula with its windmills, Kolophana with its historical church of Panagia Politi, Kalotaritissa and Mavri Miti. The church of Agia Paraskevi at Paradisia is very famous for its big annual festival on the 26 th of July.

Very picturesque are the beaches of Ammoudi, kato Kambos and Paradisia. If you go past the wreck of the Liveros, you will reach the southernest end of Amorgos, which is the bay of Kalotaritissa where you can take a boat to the small island of Gramvoussa.

In Amorgos you can try traditional tastes like “patatato” which is traditionally cooked lamb with potatoes, Easter “stuffed goat”, pure dairy products, honey, local sweets pasteli and xerotigano. and local drinks such as rakomelo (hot raki with honey), psimeni raki (sweet drink with raki, honey and herbs and a variety of beverages made of herbs.

How to get there
By Ferry: There are daily itineraries from Piraeus and Rafina port to Amorgos.
By high speed boat: There are also daily departures of High Speed ferries from Rafina.
Amorgos is connected with: the Eastern Cyclades, Naxos, Paros, Syros, Mykonos, Andros and Astypalaia.
